Educational Equity Practitioner and Consultant

Consultant & Speaker

  • Create and lead training and dialogue facilitation with surveys and collaborative qualitative and quantitative data analysis utilizing accountable equity planning tools. Recent facilitations include “Empathy and Compassion in Conversations about Race”

  • Work with equity consultants and leaders to bring racial equity-centered conversations to educators, families, students, and communities utilizing accountable equity planning tools and a collaborative approach to build capacity for equitable practices

  • Build wellness-informed equity tools in collaboration with groups like the Massachusetts Human Rights Coalition, including but not limited to antibias book review tools and human rights toolkits. Utilize surveys, research, and collaborative partners to build capacity and buy-in

  • Speak and perform poetry at events like the Winters Groups Racial Justice at Work Summit with speakers including Dr. Ibram Kendi, Minda Harts, Dr. Ruha Benjamin, and Jane Elliot

Hingham Public Schools Equity Steering Committee

  • Work closely with superintendent, assistant superintendent, METCO director, department heads, and educators to pursue more authentic partnerships between families, students, and schools in order to increase belonging and equitable access to K-12 education

  • Work with Hingham Families of Color to bring more transparency and accountability to steering committee initiatives and invite families into courageous spaces and work to bring change through interest convergence

  • Work with equity leaders (BlackPrint, The Equity Process) to create an ethical framework and strategic plan that will allow equity initiatives (such as culturally responsive teaching practices to be tracked and measured through empirical and qualitative data while balancing resource allocation and access barriers

  • Present a South Asian American perspective as a parent and a person who has been through the American education system trying to retain my culture, heritage, language, customs, and religion while facing pressure to assimilate

  • Execute community courageous conversations and data collection while working with the superintendent and school leadership to create partnerships with non-dominant families and students

2022- Current

Hingham Human Rights Commission

  • Advise the Hingham Select Board on how to ensure that the town of Hingham supports diversity and equity while fostering inclusion and belonging for every member of the community

  • Develop opportunities to build community awareness concerning human rights, including, but not limited to, diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Town of Hingham and beyond, through educational programs, summits, panels, celebrations, and other community events

  • Plan and execute surveys and co-lead training with key stakeholders to engage in meaningful equity work with the Network for Social Justice

  • Created a community asset map in order to understand the context of Hingham as well as stakeholder perspectives

  • Work with Chair and Vice Chair using an ethical framework alongside stakeholder perspectives to create a strategic plan to form relationships with town organizations so that we can build the capacity to address systemic barriers to inclusion

  • Provide a global and trauma-informed diversity, social justice, and human rights advisory lens to the commission chair and vice chair

Massachusetts Human Rights Coalition

  • Lead a toolkit building effort to gather resources for individual human rights orgs throughout the state to be able to access for statements, discussions, community events, media literacy, fundamental resources for human rights, mindfulness/wellness, centering voices, and working with local schools.

  • Participate in statewide networking between local organizations and commissions that serve human rights

  • Attend workshops, and collaborate on inter-community strategic planning

  • Share information and assistance and consult with individuals who want to start a new human rights commission

East Elementary School Equity Team

  • Evaluate and refine school curricula, policies, and procedures to ensure equitable access to resources and services

  • Help guide meetings with literature suggestions, definitions of equity-related terms, and self-reflection practices based on various seminars through close partnership with school leadership

  • Promote an inclusive culture that engages and draws on the assets of students, families, staff, and community members

  • Engage in courageous conversations about equity and social justice that value honesty over comfort

  • Raised funds for diverse books for school library through PTO contributions and community group & family donations

  • Created a “how to respond to bias” and “what can I commit to” collective school response for staff when faced with bias
